The Vera Bradley Outlet Sale - Is It Worth a Road Trip?

!±8± The Vera Bradley Outlet Sale - Is It Worth a Road Trip?

True die hard Vera Bradley addicts line up by the thousands to attend the annual outlet sale hosted by this Fort Wayne based company. Many travel several hundred miles or more just to attend. But are the deals really that great? How about the selection?

I attended the 2008 Vera Bradley Outlet Sale with these questions in mind. I was pleasantly surprised by some aspects of the sale, and admittedly disappointed with others, as you will see in this review. Although a lifelong resident of the Fort Wayne area, the corporate home of the Vera Bradley company and venue for the spring outlet sale for the past several years, I made it a point to avoid the sale. Despite the fact that I adore Vera Bradley products, I kept my distance, for the same reason that I avoid the shopping malls the day after Thanksgiving. I imagined shoppers racing into the sale to duke it out over the best bargains. Also, the idea of sifting through tables laden with a mix of Vera Bradley products sounded too much like a rummage sale to me. On top of that, being the impatient person that I am, I did not want to even think about the lines to check out.

As soon as I entered the sale, all preconceived notions I had regarding the sale vanished. I was greeted at the door by a pleasant lady, who handed me a large pink plastic bag and a list of the products available for purchase at the sale. The list, complete with pictures, included the discounted prices, as well as clearly identified where the products were located.

There were countless numbers of employees working to keep everything organized. If a customer picked up a Vera Bradley backpack and carelessly laid it down with the diaper bags, a worker was there to move it back to the backpack table. There were also several bins and carts placed around the sale, and customers were encouraged to place any castoffs in them, in order to keep the product tables organized.

Although the sale was crowded, most customers were upbeat and polite. Customers would fill up their pink plastic bags with their potential Vera Bradley purchases, and then move off to the perimeters of the sale to spread out the contents and make final decisions regarding what to keep.

To check out, I was redirected to another room. Sixty cash registers lined the room, and two to three employees worked at each cash register. One person would organize the purchases and hand them to the cashier, who would ring up the purchases, then hand them off to a third person, who would bag the purchases. All in all, the checkout process took only 10-15 minutes, which considering the number of attendees at the sale, was very quick.

The selection at the sale was decent. Most of the items were recently retired colors and discontinued styles. For shoppers looking for the new styles and colors, the pickings were slim, and I heard a few remarking that they were disappointed that they could not find their favorite bag in their favorite color. Although I attended the first night of the sale, there was plenty to choose from. The tables were continually restocked. I also overheard an employee who stated that they had several additional trucks that were yet to be unloaded.

For me, the biggest disappointment of the Vera Bradley sale was the prices. I knew the bags and accessories would be marked down 25% to 75%, however, my hope was that I could pick up a thousand dollars of product for a couple hundred bucks. Most items were reduced approximately 30-40%, but I have been able to pick up similar discount Vera Bradley bags online, without ever having to leave the comfort of my own home.

Would I attend the Vera Bradley outlet sale again? It's likely. The sale was well-organized and fun to attend. It's also just a twenty minute drive from my house. However, if I lived several hours, I do not think I would make the road trip. Sure, the prices were good - they just were not great.

Vera Bradley Backpacks Are Not Just For School

!±8± Vera Bradley Backpacks Are Not Just For School

So the hunt begins for a Vera Bradley backpack.  Whether it's for school or not, a stylish backpack is hard to come by.  Most of the backpacks out there are either way to "kiddish" or just so bland and boring that you might as well carry your books in a paper bag.  You are probably also looking for a backpack that will not cost over 0 and when looking for style that can be a difficult task as well.

Well if you are tired of looking around at garage sales and thrift stores for a nice backpack then maybe it's time you think about a Vera Bradley bag.  The versatility of these bags is so great that you can use them for books or as a hip new purse.  I know a woman who would use her Vera backsack as a purse everywhere she went and she loved it.  You don't have to worry about things falling out and you can still carry all of your personal belongings.

There are many different patterns the bags come in as well.  So whether you are more of a prissy girl who loves pinks and purples you have the Raspberry Fizz, Pinwheel Pink or the new Purple Punch pattern coming out.  And if you like some of the more masculine colors like dark blue's and deep greens, you will love the Java Blue and Windsor Navy patterns Vera has.  Riviera Blue is also a great pattern that is more of a lighter blue with a uniform little pattern.  Personally, I like the backpack that comes in the Kensington pattern.  It's more of a brown paisely look and it blends well with everything.

Maybe you like to stay up late at night, then a Night Owl patterned bag would be perfect for you.  It is one of the new patterns for the fall of 2008, but it will be popular for a long time.  With all the new patterns coming out on a regular basis it's hard to not find a pattern you will just love and want to wear all the time.  You can always mix and match your Vera Bradley bags and accessories too, and that makes buying these patterns a lot of fun.

So even if you are done with school, I am sure you will find a practical use for a Vera backpack or backsack.  It's only a question of what kind of design will you get on it.  You might be worried about taking it to school because you don't want it to get dirty, but all Vera bags are machine washable so you can have it looking as good as new in no time even if you do spill a little something on there.

Importing Handbags and Luggage

!±8± Importing Handbags and Luggage

Importing bags and luggage has become big business but there are some things that you need to know before setting up such a business.

Designer copies - these products are illegal and you may end up having your bags seized at customs, being fined and possibly facing a breach of copyright charge from the design owner. Bags such as straw baskets and cane purses will be subject to Quarrantine Leather bags will not need to be quarantined but may be examined to see that the leather is properly processed and not from an endangered species. Luggage for Children - needs to meet Australian standards  for the bag and its components. Bags and luggage can be bulky to ship and this will affect your overall costing. There are clear labelling requirements for bags that are made from leather and imitation leather. Labels need to include the country of origin and a true description of the bags.

That was some warning information. Now what about looking at what you can do?

Why not design your own range of bags or luggage? You can have personalised fabric created using specific colours. You can brand it with your logo. You can choose the manufacturer and have the process  monitored along the way. Bags start from only US.

My favourite are evening bags - elegant and sophisticated or vibrant and fun. Why not create a signature range? Source fabric and fittings and create your own line.

PU bags have no duty so you can go wild here and look for stylish handbags or tote bags. There is a growing market for synthetic bags and purses which look like leather or crocodile skin.

Enviro bags are popular especially for promotional items. There are varying weights so you could create bags for school or shopping or even as backpacks. You are only limited by your imagination.

Benefits of importing are endless so take time out to really think about all the possibilities, your own designer range of luggage, kids designer luggage - not much competition there. Wallets, purses, totes, no-one has done anything exciting in this area for years. Just think of the fun you could have with your own creations.
